Lumberjack football falls to 1-2

On Saturday in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, DCB lost to Northland CTC 32-22 in MCAC West Division Action.

DCB got on the board first with a 39 yard touchdown pass from Antoine Burgess to Tommy Collins.  After the two point conversion, the score was 8-0 DCB.  After a Northland touchdown, on their next possession the Pioneers were intercepted by John Jones who took the pick back 24 yards for another touchdown and DCB led 14-6.  However, two botched punt attempts, a bad snap and a dropped snap, led to 2 more NCTC touchdowns to put the Pioneers up 20-14.  The Jacks had an opportunity to tie the score up before halftime, but a dropped pass in the endzone kept the score 20-14 at half.  In the third quarter, the DCB defense suffered a coverage breakdown which Northland converted into points and another touchdown gave the Pioneers a 32-14 lead.  DCB scored late to account for the final margin.

The defense played well at times, but suffered a couple of breakdowns which led to points by Northland.  The offense had trouble getting on track after the initial quick score and suffered 3 injuries in the second half which led to many backups getting their first action in the fire.

DCB falls to 0-1 in the MCAC west division and 1-2 overall.  The Jacks will play Minnesota State-Fergus Falls this Saturday at Les Christian Field for homecoming, the first of 3 consecutive home games for DCB as they attempt to regroup from a tough start to the 2016 season.  Game time will be 1:30 with the homecoming parade at 10 on Saturday morning.
