Lumberjacks win!!!

On a soggy and overcast Saturday, the DCB football team snapped a 2 game losing streak with a dominating 38-13 victory over Minnesota West Community and Technical College at Les Christian Field in Bottineau.  The Lumberjacks jumped up early with an impressive first drive, then tacked on another touchdown and a safety to lead 18-0 at halftime.  DCB upped the lead to 24-0 on a Jacob Clair punt return and extended the lead to 38-6 before a late Mn West touchdown accounted for the final margin.  It was a good day on both sides of the football as the Lumberjacks ran a balanced offense, finishing with 188 passing and 181 rushing yards while holding Minnesota West to 153 total yards, most of that coming after the game was no longer in doubt.

With the win, DCB improves to 2-3 and gets ready for a visit by the North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday, October 1st.  The Wildcats and Jacks will battle once again for the “Lumbercat” trophy with the teams having split the past 4 meetings.  Game time Saturday is 2:00 PM at Les Christian Field in Bottineau.

Another tough loss for DCB football

Homecoming Saturday saw an exciting but disappointing outcome as the Lumberjack football team fell to Minnesota State CTC – Fergus Falls 38-35 at Les Christian Field.  Fergus Falls scored first, but 2 quick DCB scores put the Lumberjacks up 13-7.  Fergus Falls scored in the second quarter to take the lead 14-13.  The Lumberjacks had two more great opportunities to score later in the first half, but a wide open touchdown pass was dropped and then with 40 seconds left in the half, the Lumberjacks were at the 1 yard line at 4th and goal.  They decided to go for the touchdown, but were denied and went in at half trailing by 1.

The third quarter has not been kind to DCB this fall and Saturday was no exception.  Fergus Falls scored two long touchdowns on a quarterback scramble and a long pass and added a field goal off a bad punt snap to take the lead to 31-13 before the Lumberjacks responded.  2 quick touchdowns and 2 two point conversions brought the score to 31-29.  Fergus Falls scored to up the lead to 9, but the Lumberjacks responded to cut the lead to 38-35 with about 6 minutes left.  The Spartans of FF went on a long drive, were finally denied inside the 10 with about 3 minutes to go.  DCB had two great opportunities to get a drive going, but went 3 and out and the game was over.

With the loss, DCB is now 1-3 at the regular season midpoint and has some work to do if they expect to make the MCAC playoffs for a third straight year.  The Lumberjacks host Minnesota West CTC this upcoming Saturday, September 24th with a noon kickoff, the second of a 3 game homestand.

Lumberjack football falls to 1-2

On Saturday in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, DCB lost to Northland CTC 32-22 in MCAC West Division Action.

DCB got on the board first with a 39 yard touchdown pass from Antoine Burgess to Tommy Collins.  After the two point conversion, the score was 8-0 DCB.  After a Northland touchdown, on their next possession the Pioneers were intercepted by John Jones who took the pick back 24 yards for another touchdown and DCB led 14-6.  However, two botched punt attempts, a bad snap and a dropped snap, led to 2 more NCTC touchdowns to put the Pioneers up 20-14.  The Jacks had an opportunity to tie the score up before halftime, but a dropped pass in the endzone kept the score 20-14 at half.  In the third quarter, the DCB defense suffered a coverage breakdown which Northland converted into points and another touchdown gave the Pioneers a 32-14 lead.  DCB scored late to account for the final margin.

The defense played well at times, but suffered a couple of breakdowns which led to points by Northland.  The offense had trouble getting on track after the initial quick score and suffered 3 injuries in the second half which led to many backups getting their first action in the fire.

DCB falls to 0-1 in the MCAC west division and 1-2 overall.  The Jacks will play Minnesota State-Fergus Falls this Saturday at Les Christian Field for homecoming, the first of 3 consecutive home games for DCB as they attempt to regroup from a tough start to the 2016 season.  Game time will be 1:30 with the homecoming parade at 10 on Saturday morning.
